I Couldn't Get One Verse Right, So I Booked a Quran Lesson

I was trying to memorize Surah Al-Bayyinah, and everything felt manageable until I reached one particular line. I kept getting stuck at “فِيهَا كُتُبٌ قَيِّمَةٌ.” For three days, the same thing happened: I would think I had it, only to lose it again the next day.

I closed my notebook frustrated and thought, maybe I’m just not cut out for learning the Quran. That feeling is familiar to more learners than most people admit. The problem is not always lack of effort. Sometimes it is the pressure we put on ourselves when progress feels slower than we hoped.

Later that day, I was scrolling through Munabook and found a teacher profile that described someone patient with beginners and gentle in correction. I booked a one-on-one session.

At the start of the lesson, she smiled and said, “Let’s only work on the verse you’re stuck with. No pressure.” I recited it and got it wrong again. I told her, “This line just won’t stay in my head.” She replied, “Mistakes are part of learning. This isn’t a test.” Then she broke the verse into smaller parts and guided me through it slowly.

What helped most was not only the correction. It was the atmosphere. She did not rush me, react harshly, or make me feel embarrassed. She kept saying, “It’s okay to go slow.” That changed everything. I realized I had been learning under pressure instead of peace.

After class, I tried the verse again. I still made a small mistake, but I was no longer angry at myself. I remembered her words: “You’re not failing. You’re just going too fast.” I booked another lesson later that week, and for the first time, I felt like I was moving forward instead of proving something.

Sometimes progress does not come from trying harder alone. Sometimes it comes from having the right kind of guidance beside you. That is what made the difference for me.

I’m still learning. I still stumble. But now I know how to keep going, and that has changed far more than a single verse.
